Kat Keene grew up in the woods of North Carolina making up stories. Today she's between New York and Los Angeles directing brand and documentary content and developing scripted narratives for film and television.
Kat began as a video journalist at the Washington Post at 19, shot and produced MTV’s Teen Mom at 21, and directed her first documentary series for Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Networks at 23.
In 2014 Kat directed The Explorers Project, a series of documentary spots for National Geographic Society sponsored by Nikon. Kat traveled to a dozen destinations — the sands of the Sahara, the wildlife reserves of Kenya, the clear waters of Bermuda, and beyond — to uncover and frame the deepest insights of leading scientists, artists, activists and thinkers around the world.
Kat’s recent brand work includes films for Delta, Verizon, CVS Beauty, Disney, Academy Sports, Bank of America, and Lincoln Motors. Other notable clients over the years are Vanity Fair, The Guardian, NPR, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and HBO.
When she’s not on set, Kat can be found swinging on the flying trapeze or throwing sticks for her redheaded mutt, Mango. She is available for assignment worldwide.
